Those of us with a beautiful natural curl to our hair can be proud of our dramatic fulsome locks, but sometimes for lifestyle reasons or possibly because there is a cut that we just love – we want it straight or at least straighter. This usually means an ongoing date with a flat iron, which is, besides being time consuming, is much work and not the best daily practice for healthy hair. Well help is on the way. After many improvements in procedure and formulation over the last few years the Brazilian smoothing technique has finally hit the big stage in the form of the Brazilian Blowout (tm) branded smoothing procedure. Using a proprietary mix of amino acids, polymers, protective masks, and serums the Brazilian Blowout system can calm the wildest mane of curls and frizz into the softest, silkiest head of glossy straight healthy manageable hair you’ve ever imagined. Hair that is coloured or treated can receive the process, and the condition of the hair actually improved. There is no replacement for actually witnessing the Brazilian Blowout transformation. As part of our certification process we had a bit of a Blowout party. We were lucky enough to have a friend of Exquisite Beauty, Hair and Spa, who not only is experienced in the spa business (and therefore a valuable critic) but also has a gorgeous full head of curly hair. So she became our canvas for the evening.
Here is Lucy prior to receiving the Brazilian Blowout treatment.
Essentially the process is as follows…
1) Deep cleanse with specially formulated anti-residue shampoo to remove any natural oils or hair products that could interfere with the bonding process – towel dry.
2) Section and carefully and thoroughly comb in the treatment – blow dry then flat iron.
3) Rinse and apply protective mask for 60 seconds – rinse and towel dry.
4) Apply serum to smooth and seal hair and finally blow dry.
Total treatment time for Lucy was slightly over 90 minutes.

Overall the process went very smoothly, in the hands of an experienced Brazilian Blowout certified stylist you can expect great results. We were very interested to see if there was any odour, burning of the eyes, or itching of the skin experienced by either Lucy or Mina (who performed the treatment,) since this has been an issue with other treatment systems. Lucy as our client reported that she experienced none of these issues. Mina reported that she experienced some fumes at one point as she worked close to the flat iron, but that there was no irritation. By the end of the treatment Lucy’s hair was very naturally silky, soft, and the only smell present was the light scent of the smoothing serum. It should be mentioned that there is a specific aftercare shampoo and conditioner for the treatment, and I would rate this as very important if you want to achieve lasting results – the last thing you want to do is strip the treatment from your hair with a shampoo designed for a different purpose. Overall I would give the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment five stars out of five. A great new addition to the pallet of fun, fashionable things curly heads can do with their hair!
